What is LLMs.txt? LLMs.txt is a proposed Markdown file placed at the root of your domain that gives AI language models a clean, structured summary of your site, its pages, and what each one is about. It does for AI models what sitemap.xml does for search engines.
Project / Company Name Used as the H1 title of your file.
Project Summary One or two lines describing what your site or business does.
Sitemap URL Best for large sites — point to your sitemap.xml and we’ll read every listed page.
Website URL We’ll attempt to read your homepage directly. Works best on same-origin or CORS-enabled sites.
Paste Specific URLs One URL per line. Useful when you only want certain pages included.

Note: browser-based fetching depends on the target site allowing cross-origin requests (CORS). If a fetch is blocked, switch to “Paste URLs” and list the pages manually — titles are generated automatically from each URL slug.

What Is LLMs.txt

A Sitemap, But Written for AI Models Instead of Crawlers.

LLMs.txt is a proposed convention, introduced in 2024, for giving AI language models a clean, structured summary of a website at a predictable address: yourdomain.com/llms.txt.

Unlike robots.txt, which tells bots what they may or may not crawl, or sitemap.xml, which simply lists URLs for indexing, llms.txt delivers actual content: page titles, short descriptions, and grouped links, written in plain Markdown that a language model can read without parsing HTML noise.

It is not an official web standard yet, and adoption is still growing. But the file is small, takes minutes to create, and adds essentially zero technical overhead, which is why more sites are adding it as AI tools become a bigger source of traffic and citations.

Why It Helps

A clear llms.txt boosts chatbot accuracy, makes your site structure obvious to AI tools, and future-proofs your content for AI-driven search and automation.

Who Uses It

SaaS products documenting features for AI support agents, e-commerce sites summarizing product pages, technical blogs helping AI assistants reference tutorials, and agencies building AI search visibility for clients.

Does It Replace SEO?

No. Google, Bing and traditional search engines do not read llms.txt. It works alongside your existing SEO and AI SEO strategy, not in place of it.

How to Add Your llms.txt File

Place the file at the root of your domain, the same convention as robots.txt. The correct URL is always yourdomain.com/llms.txt.

1

Download your file

Click Download after generating. You’ll get a plain-text file named llms.txt.

2

Upload it to your server root

This is the public folder that serves your homepage — typically /public_html/, /public/ or /www/. Do not place it in a subfolder.

3

Verify it’s live

Open https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt in your browser and confirm you see the Markdown content.

Not yet. LLMs.txt is a proposed convention introduced in 2024 as a practical way for websites to communicate structured content to AI language models. Adoption is growing, but the format is still evolving and has not been ratified by W3C or IETF.
No. Google, Bing and other traditional search engines do not use the llms.txt file. It is intended for AI language models and tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, that use it to better understand your site’s content.
Yes. Point the Sitemap URL field at your sitemap.xml and the generator will read every listed URL and group them into sections automatically. For very large sites, the Bulk Paste option also lets you control exactly which pages are included.
Whenever you add significant new pages or restructure your site. For most sites, regenerating once a month or after major content updates is more than enough.
It’s a small, low-effort piece of a larger AI visibility strategy. It will not by itself get you cited in AI answers — that depends on content structure, authority and E-E-A-T signals — but it costs nothing to add and signals that your site is AI-ready. We include it as standard in every AI SEO engagement.
